The FlowerHouse Wedding Day Recommendations

Every Bride wants her day to be spectacular and have that special “Wow factor”, and there are so many things to take into consideration when planning your flowers for the big day.  Here at The FlowerHouse we would like to help you with the things you may need to include in those considerations with that in mind here are some recommendations.

 The Preparation

Know your budget.

Do you have a theme in mind?

Scour the latest books and magazines for latest looks i.e. www.weddingmagazine.co.uk or www.bridesmagazine.co.uk

Try to visit a wedding show such as www.nationalweddingshow.co.uk or visit www.rhs.org.uk for shows in your area.

Think carefully about what look you want to achieve.

Keep things simple, understated elegance is particularly stylish.

Give careful consideration to the blooms you wish to use.

Personalising and paying particular attention to detail is what you and your guests will remember.

The Florist

Decide if you want to use a florist or try to make some or all of your own flowers.

If you do choose to use services of a florist book early enough to avoid disappointment.

Choose a florist you feel comfortable dealing with, some one you can speak to openly about what you want and the way to go about it.

When meeting with your florist take a photo of the dress with you so you can ensure your bouquet will compliment not overpower the design of the dress.

Ask your florist for recommendations and to visit a flower market with you for inspiration.

 The Bride

Think about what suits your hair colour and skin tone and the make up you will be wearing on the day. If you can afford to it may be worth having a couple of sample designs made up to see how you feel about holding and carrying it as weight of the bouquet could play an important part on the day.

Think about what style of bouquet you would like to carry.

Dare to be different by trying a creative alternative to a bouquet

Handbags made from orchids and delicate foliage.

Statement flowers in your hair or a wrist corsage keeping hands free.

Try a Pomander (ball of flowers), for you and/or your bridesmaids.

Do you want to use the same dress fabric around the stems of the bouquets?

The Venue

Keeping costs to an acceptable budget can not surprisingly play a considerable part in the choices made for wedding flowers.  One area of potential cost saving worth considering is that round tables require less flowers than traditional long tables and this can also be applied to the top table seating the same number of guests. Whilst a long top table dressing will look elegant another option to consider is that of having several smaller arrangements interspersed with candles or vases of flowers.

Listed below are just some of the things you may like to take into consideration when planning your flowers for the venue.

Spacious venues with high ceilings can be filled with dramatic tall arrangements.

The size and style of the venue.

Historic buildings suit softer shades.

Modern buildings suit a cleaner minimalistic look.

If you have a theme in mind it may shape the decorative style of the day.

Try to incorporate a hint of the room colour in your arrangements to tie it all together.

Consider matching flowers on chair backs to carry the colours through the room.

Table decorations like candelabra’s need to allow guests to see & speak with each other.

Place settings, with a single flower on the napkin tied with a bow make for a personal touch.
